Stats Name Marie Colangelo
The Fire Within At the age of 12 Marie Colangelo began her fighting career. With a goal in mind to filter a natural urge to turn fighting into something positive, she found a trainer and hit the mats. She studied various martial art forms as a part of her training and conditioning. In addition to her fighting workouts, trainers Frank Amalfitano & Tim March implemented a vigorous yet imaginative training program involving striking, grappling, and total body conditioning. Marie continued with her training for the next 5 years and stepped into the cage at the age of 21. Her drive and inner fire have kept her in contender status ever since.
Motivation As a heavy competitor, Marie is driven by the desire to win. She rises every morning addicted to feelings of victory, flowing adrenaline, and respect. Her need to get her fix of these emotions brings her back to the gym to endure the hell of training to be a champion fighter. Responsibility and pride drive her to step onto the mats representing her self and everything she works for, but also everyone on her team who supports her. Even after 16 years of fighting the butterflies still flutter before a fight. Once the fight begins, those butterflies disappear and the fighter takes over.
Fighting Family- Eastside Combat Club Trainer Brendan Seguin, along with manager Mike Gourieux and the rest of the Eastside Combat Club have been training alongside Marie Colangelo on and off the mats. Marie works her striking and grappling moves against her teammates, benefiting during fights from the advantage of only training with men. She has been able to pinpoint her strengths and weaknesses and knows how to use them to her advantage during a fight.
Style Early on Marie recognized that only studying one style of fighting would lead to boredom so she is continually changing it up. Her fighting style is best categorized as a hybrid, moving back and forth from striking, to judo to grappling and back. In having these varied fighting skills, Marie can decipher her opponent's weakness and use it against them. Once she takes them out of their element, she has gained the upper hand of the fight and is able to overcome her opponent. Although only having fought one fight inside the cage, Marie is known in the fighting world as a cage fighter. Marie cannot be placed in one fighting category, as she is widely known as one of the best ground fighters and grapplers.
Goals, Fears and Challenges Looking past the obvious dangers and concerns that surround the fighting world, Marie Colangelo is concerned with a more intangible threat- the threat that she may have to deal with accepting a loss. Despite every bruise she's ever gotten on her body, she has come to realize that it's the bruise to the ego that hurts the worst. Marie is motivated to continue her career as long as she can. She has shied away from setting deadlines for herself in the cage. "If I'm 47 and my body is still able, I'll fight."
